Top Awards in the South West ISA Art Competition

Once again our school has enjoyed much success at the South West Independent Schools Association art competition winning eight first prizes, seven second prizes and six third prizes. Mrs Briggs, Head of Art, was elated with her pupils' successes especially as they were across a range of categories including three new ones digital art, photography and design. She added, "It was a fabulous day and I returned to school absolutely thrilled by the results. Thank you to all of the pupils for their hard work, creativity and dedication".

Comic Relief

The Junior School took their fundraising for Comic Relief very seriously this year when they decided to hold a cake sale to raise money for the charity.

National I.S.A. 7-a-side Hockey Champions 2013

What a difference a year makes! Last year our senior boys hockey team were runners up in the National 7 a side finals, this year they went one better, and are now the official I.S.A. 7 a side Champions for 2013!

Six teams were invited to the finals at Rugby School in Warwickshire. Having left school at 0600 hours, they had barely stretched their legs before they faced their first opponents at 1030. After an indifferent, one could say, lethargic start, they found themselves a goal behind, but rallied and won the game. In a 'round robin' style competition, our boys did get beaten once, but as the results were compiled, they discovered they were to be named Champions but on the narrowest of margins – goal difference! Congratulations to the team, and to our coach and Head of PE, Mr L. Tulett.

Park Art

Department of Art and Design
Head of Art: Mrs Alexandra Briggs

Art at the Park School is exciting, inventive and fun. Pupils are encouraged to work in a range of media and explore various skills and techniques including print making, textiles and photography amongst others. Projects are undertaken at key stage three to incorporate various elements such as line, tone, perspective and colour and to develop practical skills in two and three dimensions. Art from Years 5 and 6 to Sixth form is taught in a spacious light and inspiring art room with large beams where work is displayed. There is also a small darkroom where traditional photography is explored.

Public Speaking in English

Sukie Chan and Kelvin Poon (pictured below) did something which many of us would find daunting in our own language, but they were sufficiently confident to enter a public speaking competition in English.  The event was held at Sherborne Girls - the venue may explain why Kelvin bravely volunteered for a second year!

Sukie's topic was 'Culture Shock' and she spoke in a very lively but warm and honest way about her own experiences before offering advice on how to cope with starting life in a new country.  Sukie gained third prize, no mean feat as she was in a competition with pupils who had been in England for a longer time, and some were older than her. Kelvin's topic was one close to his heart, 'Love'!  The judges were impressed by his thoughtful comments, analysis and organisation of ideas. Both were praised for the way they handled the audience's questions.  The standard was very high and the topics varied. Well done to both of you!
